
Who is Neto Meeks
Neto Meeks is a multi-talented media practitioner, writer, performance poet, social development worker, sketch artist, martial arts enthusiast and model. He has also operated his own farm producing food for family and friends. The combination of these skills makes him a living manifestation of the spiritual and healing powers of the physical and performance arts. His use of music, poetry and yoga as central components of his recovery from a major stroke offers him a unique perspective for raising awareness of the power of the arts for personal and national development. His journey will undoubtedly inspire self-confidence in persons of special abilities. It will also heighten the recognition of the innumerable ways that they can contribute to the growth of the cultural and creative industries.
IMPACT ON JAMAICAN CULTURAL LANDSCAPE
Neto has successfully spear-headed or participated in a range of arts-related projects. Some of these are:

Conceptualising and presenting radio programmes

Conceptualising and producing short films

The development of a collective of dub poets known as Rawyal African Souljahs

Participating in the first staging of the Calabash International Literary Festival and maintaining performance connections with this initiative

Co-ordinated participation of poets in In Search Of, for Running African on IRIE FM

Co-ordinated poetry segment of FiWi Sinting Festival
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Among the projects that Neto rates as his greatest accomplishments is the motivational short film he wrote and produced for young men Sharp Shootas. Film accepted in Jamaica’s International Film Festival and also debut on Channel 33 Telstar Cable TV.
He is published in the 10th anniversary anthology of the Calabash International Literary Festival “So Much Things To Say”.
He collaborated with Jamaican Reggae Start Junior Reid and Antiguan musical sensation, Bless Eye and the acclaimed One Chance.
NEW DIRECTION
Having his right side compromised as a result of the stroke, Neto has mastered the use of his left hand with which he produces line drawings of cultural icons and super-heroes. He has also learned to play the keyboard.
He has now turned his vision to the development of Art and Soul, The Neto Meeks Foundation for the use of art and music for the rehabilitation of persons in recovery from physical and neurological trauma.
